Pioneers Draw With Saint John's on Saturday Night

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team battled the Saint John's Johnnies to a 1-1 draw on a rainy Saturday night inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers had most of the scoring chances in the first half, finishing with nine total shots and seven shots on goal. Saint John's goalkeeper Evan Siefken collected five saves to keep the game scoreless at the break, including a diving save on a UW-Platteville penalty kick by sophomore Clayton Mobile. Mobile posted three shots in the first half for the Pioneers, while junior Jack Gentilli had two attempts.

In the second half, UW-Platteville continued its barrage of shots, attempting seven shots in the first thirty minutes of gameplay. But the Johnnies broke through first, scoring a goal in the 76th minute following a corner kick. The Pioneers answered seven minutes later in the 83rd minute as Mobile blasted a shot from outside the box off a feed from Gentilli to even the game. UW-Platteville had the only shot in the final seven minutes of the game, but Siefken turned away a shot from sophomore Clayton Lautenschlaeger.

UW-Platteville totaled 20 shots in the game, including 14 on goal. Gentilli and and Mobile led the team with five shots, with four of Mobile's coming on target. Gentilli, Lautenschlaeger, and sophomore Jacob Keller each finished with two shots on goal. Freshman Seth Aiken tallied three saves on four shots faced.

The Pioneers host Wheaton (Ill.) on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
