PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Newly appointed University of Wisconsin-Platteville head football coach Ryan Munz announced the addition of three assistant coaches to the Pioneer football staff. Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Brent Allen will lead the offense and will be joined by Passing Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach Ryley Bailey. Pat Sheehan returns to the Pioneers as Special Teams Coordinator.
No stranger to Wisconsin football, Allen joins the staff after spending the previous seven seasons as Assistant Football Coach and Run Game Coordinator at UW-Whitewater.
"We are excited about Brent joining our staff. He has proven success and has a vast knowledge on offensive football. He will add another dimension to our offense," said Munz.
The Mukwanago native brings 13 years of experience coaching at the NCAA Division III level with prior stops at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and Carroll University in Waukesha. He has coached four WIAC Championship teams, three NCAA DIII Semifinalist teams and one NCAA DIII National Runner-Up program. Time at UW-Whitewater developing a competitive offensive line room yielded 20 All-WIAC selections, nine All-Americans, one Rimington Award winner and two NFL players.
"I want to thank Coach Munz for this opportunity to work with such a great staff. I look forward to creating new relationships with the players and helping them achieve their maximum potential on and off the field," said Allen.
After spending the previous three seasons as a part-time assistant coach at his alma mater, Bailey joins the Pioneer staff in a full-time role as Passing Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach.
"We are excited to have Ryley join our staff full time," said Munz. "He has had a great impact on our program since he showed up on campus. He brings great energy to our staff and I'm excited to watch him grow."
After spending time at UW-Platteville as a Graduate Assistant Coach from 2014-16, Bailey led the Platteville High School football program for two seasons where the head coach's Hillmen recorded an overall record of 15-5, won the 2017 conference championship and made a Wisconsin Level 2 Playoffs appearance. The Elburn, Illinois native was also named the Southwest Wisconsin Coach of the Year.
Since making the switch back to the collegiate level, the Pioneers led the WIAC in pass offense in 2021 and 2019 with four receivers earning All-WIAC honors.
On Butch Leitl Field, Bailey was Team Captain of the 2013 NCAA DIII playoff team, Preseason All-American receiver by D3football.com, 3rd Team All-West Region, and a two-time All-WIAC First Team selection.
"First, I want to say thank you to Chancellor Shields, Dr. Navarro, Coach Munz, the rest of the coaching staff and the players for this opportunity. I am extremely honored to join the UW-Platteville football staff under Coach Munz," said Bailey. "As a former player and part time assistant under Coach Munz I have witnessed the hard work and dedication that it takes to run a successful program. I cannot think of a better person to lead Pioneer Football moving forward. Our current players are thriving, our incoming players are excited, and the Platteville Community is Rising! Let's go to work."
Sheehan is also a familiar face making a return to UW-Platteville and the coaching staff. The former Pioneer standout was an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Pioneers from 2016-20.
"We are excited to bring Pat back to the staff as our Special Teams Coordinator. His excitement is contagious and is chomping at the bit to get back to Platteville and get started. Our special teams will be in great shape," said Munz.
The Flossmoor, Illinois native returns to his alma mater after spending the last two years managing and planning national football showcases based out of Denver, Colorado. Prior to coaching, Sheehan was an All-WIAC selection and wide receiver on both the Pioneers' 2013 and 2016 NCAA DIII Playoff berth teams.
"I want to thank Coach Munz and Dr. Navarro for this opportunity. Platteville is home to me. It's where I met my beautiful fiancé, Chenoa, and many of my best friends. It's where I played ball with my brothers and gave it all on the field for each other and our coaches," Sheehan explained. "When Coach Munz called and asked us to come back to Platteville, we were thrilled. Coach is a friend and a mentor that embodies everything that is good about UW-Platteville. We can't wait to come home and give everything for him and the Pioneer Family."
The three staff members will officially begin their coaching duties over the course of the next three weeks.
