Pioneers extend streak to four with road win at Milikin

DECATUR, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team extended its win streak to four in a row with a 3-1 road win at Millikin University Wednesday, night. The Pioneers (4-2-0) had three team members score against the Big Blue (0-4-1) on Frank M. Lindsay Field.

Sophomore Jack Gentilli had a game high four shots and was first on the scoreboard with a goal in the 12th minute assisted by sophomore Konrad Ziaja.

Just seven minutes later, the Pioneers extended their lead to 2-0 when freshman Marcelo Garay passed to freshman John Bochenczak for UW-Platteville's second goal of the evening.

The Big Blue narrowed the gap to one in the 28th minute when Johannes Smaaberg found the back of the net for Milikin.

UW-Platteville held on to a one-point game into the second frame and the Pioneers struck again in the 69th minute to extend the lead to 3-1. Sophomore Cayden Carlson was the third Pioneer to score a goal on the night and was assisted by freshman Clayton Mobile.

Neither team would find the back of the net again and UW-Platteville finished the day outshooting Milikin 22-7 bringing their advantage on shots against opponents to 122-22 over the last four games.

Freshman Chase Werner tallied four saves in goal as did counterpart Felix Malm.

The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they host Simpson College at 2 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer.
