Eagle Pitching Quiets Pioneer Bats in Game 1

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- After losing their first matchup of the season back in March, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team has now defeated the University of Wisconsin-Platteville seven straight times.  The latest victories came in Platteville on Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles won 11-1 and 10-6 decisions in a doubleheader with the Pioneers.  The non-conference losses drop Platteville to 8-8 overall on the season.  La Crosse improves to 12-4.  Tuesday's contests were make-up games from Saturday's originally scheduled doubleheader which was washed out by rain.  The Pioneers are back in action Wednesday to play a home doubleheader against #13 UW-Whitewater.  Gametimes are scheduled for 1p and 4p.

Game 1 R H E
UW-La Crosse 11 12 3
UW-Platteville 1 2 5

WP - Jack Perinovic
 LP - Logan Black

The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings and cruised to the 11-1 win.  The seven run advantage was enough for a quartet of UWL pitchers who held Platteville to just two hits.  The Pioneers' lone tally came in the bottom of the seventh via a 2-out single by 2B Anders Lind (Fr./St. Paul, Minn.).  It was the first collegiate hit and RBI for Lind, who was making his first start of the season.  Logan Black (Fr./Ceresco, Neb.), making his first start of the season, tossed three innings.  He gave up four run on five hits and struck out two.

Game 2 R H E
UW-La Crosse 10 11 1
UW-Platteville 6 6 3

WP - Michael Ellingsen
 LP - Rich Jesse Jr.

Five runs in the middle innings pulled the Pioneers to within 7-5 heading into the 8th.  Garrett Gillund (Jr./Wonder Lake, Ill.) knocked a 2-RBI double down the left field line in a three-run 5th.  UWL pulled away with three runs of their own in the 8th, two of which were unearned.  The Pioneer defense struggled in both games, committing five errors in the opener and three more in the nightcap.  Of the Eagles' 10 runs in game two, only six were earned.

Jonny Kelso (Jr./Willow Park, Ill.) led the Platteville offense by going 2-3 and stealing two bases.  Kelso now has 27 hits in 54 at bats this season.  Additionally, the centerfielder has stolen 13 bases and has yet to be caught this spring.
