Pioneers keep momentum alive with 3-0 victory over Vikings

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team defeated the Augustana College Vikings 3-0 Tuesday night on Thorson-Lucken Field. The Pioneers (11-2-2), who moved up to No. 5 in the USCA regional rankings this week, are now unbeaten in 13 consecutive games.

UW-Platteville's offense has consistently showcased its dominance, and Tuesday's win at Augustana (4-9-0) was no exception. Although the Pioneers held an 11-4 advantage on shots in the first half, the two teams remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes of action.

The Pioneers were quick to pull ahead in the second frame as freshman Konrad Ziaja scored his first career goal in the 47th minute with an assist by freshman Jacob Keller.  Sophomore Jack Gentilli from freshman Lucas Schoeneberg punched in another three minutes later to double the Pioneers' lead. Freshman Isaac Peterson from freshman Marcelo Garay added an insurance goal in the 81st minute to bring the Pioneer's lead to 3-0.

UW-Platteville doubled its first half shot tally by the end and held a 22-6 advantage over Augustana.  The Pioneers also held an 8-1 edge on corner kicks.

Freshman Chase Werner kept a clean slate and tallied two saves while Frankie Baio kept busy and registered eight saves.

The Pioneers will return to action and Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Friday, Oct. 22 for a 7:30 p.m. start against the Luther College Norse.
