DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin Platteville men's soccer team shut out neighboring rival Loras College 1-0 Friday night at the Rock Bowl. The triumph marks the fourth shutout in a row for the Pioneers (9-2-2) and takes the team's unbeaten streak to 11, a school record.
"Beyond proud of our program," said Director of Soccer Sam Koenig. "As we talk about everyday – we are on a mission. Today was just another day at the office. We are playing to our standard and this is a fun group to be around. Players killed it tonight!"
Although the Duhawks (7-6-2) managed to hold the advantage on shots, 19-15, UW-Platteville owned the lone goal of the night. The eventual winning goal fell in the 38th minute following a throw in by junior Matt Walter which found freshman Jacob Keller for the lead.
Freshman Chase Werner kept another clean slate recording seven saves in the 90 minutes of regulation while Loras' Connor Fitzpatrick tallied three saves.
The Pioneers will take a day of rest before they hop on the bus and head to Bethel University (Minn.) on Sunday, Oct. 17 with game time set for 2 p.m.
