Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pioneers find a way

MENOMONIE, WIS. - The UW-Platteville men's basketball team defeated the UW-Stout Blue Devils 75-72 on Saturday afternoon at UW-Stout.

The game was an ugly one for the Pioneers, but they somehow found a way to win. They had clutch plays from junior Carter Voelker who hit an and-1 three pointer to tie the game 72-72. Senior Clay Gerds then grabbed an offensive rebound on the errant free throw and the ball found its way to freshmen Kyle Tuma and he hit the game winning three point shot as time expired.

The Pioneers shot 38.2% from the field and 41.4% from three. They outrebounded Stout 40-39. Junior Carter Voelker led the Pioneers with 26 points on 6 three pointers made. The 26 points scored is a new career high for Voelker. Robert Duax chipped in with 23 points on 8-14 shooting. Kyle Tuma flirted with a double-double having 8 points and 9 rebounds.

The Pioneers return home Wednesday Jan. 16 at home against UW-Eau Claire. Tip is set for 7 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse.
