Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pioneers run away with win

PLATTEVILLE, WIS. - The UW-Platteville men's basketball team defeated the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds by a score of 81-62 on Wednesday night. With the win the Pioneers improve to 10-6 and 3-2 in WIAC play.

The Pioneers got off to a hot start from the field in the first half shooting 51.9% and 64.3% from the three-point line. The defense for the Pioneers was stifling in the first half making the Blugolds commit 8 turnovers in 29 possessions. Also holding the Blugolds to 33.3% shooting from the three-point line.

In the second half the Blugolds picked up their game outscoring the Pioneers 40-36 but the Pioneers were still able to shoot 45.5% from the field while also making four more free throws than the Blugolds.

For the game Carter Voelker led the Pioneers with 22 points on 6-6 shooting from three which ties a school record for most makes without a miss. Kyle Tuma contributed 17 points and 7 rebounds. Clay Gerds had a nice game with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at UW-Stevens Point.
