PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team lost 2-1 to the Monmouth Fighting Scots Saturday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The loss brings UW-Platteville's record to 4-2 on the season.
The game began as a defensive struggle as neither team was able to get an advantage early. The defenses of both teams were able to prevent any scoring opportunities, as Monmouth registered only 4 shots on goal in the first half, and UW-Platteville had only 1.
The scoring draught for both teams continued into the second half, until Pioneer senior Katelyn Winther was able to get past Monmouth goalie Nicole Neagle for a goal with 13 minutes' left in the game. This gave UW-Platteville a 1-0 lead, but for a short time. The Scots quickly recovered and with 10 minutes, left Andrea Correa was able to tie the game at 1. Monmouth was able to take the lead with 3:55 left in the game on a goal from Kara-Jade Gordon. UW-Platteville was unable to score again, and the game ended 2-1 for a Monmouth Victory.
The Pioneers are right back on the home field Sunday Sept. 18, against Dubuque at 2 p.m.
