Men's Soccer holds off Warriors, 3-1

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team started the 2014 season on the right foot with a 3-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday afternoon at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona, Wisconsin.

The Pioneers played aggressive and physical, out shooting the Warriors 12-10 with a 5-0 corner kick advantage.

UW-Platteville's senior Brad Streich juked out two Warrior defenders to get himself a wide open look and drilled the Pioneers' first goal of season from 21 yards out, seven minutes into the game. Five minutes later, WLC's goalie miss played Jordan Williams' throw-in and Alex Bach collected the loose ball right in front of the goal, and gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute.

The Warriors brought the game back to a one-goal game when Roman Nino found an open Austin Drake.  Drake took a shot from 35 yards out that went just over the out reached arms of goalie Scott Sibic to make it a 2-1 game at intermission.

The Pioneers held of several WLC attackes in the final period and finally put the game away in the 88th minute with a goal from Sadek Sanon which was assisted by Mbodje Sarr.

UW-Platteville won't celebrate its victory for very long as the Pioneers travel to St. Norbert on Sunday at 3 p.m.
