PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – UW-Whitewater's Sam Novak headed in the game-winning goal with one second left defeating, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team, 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
UWW's John Gottwald hurried to get a corner kick off with 10 seconds left in the game and then the corner was headed in by Novak with a second to play, 3-2.
The Pioneers jumped out a 2-0 lead when senior Michael Prudisch lofted a cross that was misplayed by the goalkeeper and ended up in the back of the net. Then sophomore William Pretto tapped in a great throw in by Jordan Williams in the 41st-minute, giving UW-Platteville a 2-0 advantage.
The Pioneers missed clearing a free kick and the Warhawks Eduardo Gutierrez to advantage of the Pioneer miscue scoring at the 44:26 mark.
UWW's Bob Shone scored the equalizer in the 84th-minute, 2-2.
The Pioneers fall to 5-4-3 and 1-2 in WIAC play, while the 19th-ranked Warhawks move to 9-2 and 1-0 in conference action.
UW-Platteville travels to MSOE on Wednesday with game time set for 7 p.m.
