PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team fell to another nationally ranked team, this time by 11th-ranked Wartburg, 2-0, on Wednesday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers held the 11-ranked Knights scoreless and without a shot on goal in the first half for a 0-0 halftime score.
In the 53rd-minute, the Knights were on the counter attack and a missed offside call by the linesman gave Wartburg's Chris Nothnick a wide-open shot from 20 yards out. Nothnick nearly missed the open shot as the ball bounced off the post and in, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.
Wartburg put the game out of reach, when Zach Smith scored from 15 yards out in the center of the field in the 64th-minute.
The Pioneers move to 6-7-3 on the season while Wartburg improves to 13-2-2.
UW-Platteville's schedule doesn't get any easier as the Pioneers welcome sixth-ranked UW-Oshkosh on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will honor four seniors before the game for their final game at Pioneer Stadium.
