Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pioneers Knock Off No. 24 Augsburg, 1-0

After playing to a 0-0 tie on Friday, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer was nearly headed to overtime until a Mark Feltner goal in the 89th minute led the visiting Pioneers to a 1-0 goal over No. 24 Augsburg in Minneapolis on Sunday.

The Pioneers (6-1-1) had played to a scoreless tie and were headed to overtime for the second-straight match until the Feltner goal. The Pioneers played hard throughout the match, noted UW-Platteville head coach Enzo Fuschino. "It was a great team effort by our guys. We defended very well."

Augsburg (5-3-1) out shot UW-Platteville by a 20 to 8 margin in the defeat. But, it was the Pioneers defense who kept the match scoreless as UW-Platteville goalkeeper Ian Christensen (pictured) had a season-high eight saves to withstand the Auggies' attack for his fourth shutout in six games.

To set up the game-winning goal, junior Cameron Weess had a long throw into the box to an aggressive Feltner for his second goal of the season.

The Pioneers, who were ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA North Region last week for the first time since 2008, will return to action at home on Wednesday, Sept. 19 to face Loras. The Duhawks are currently No. 1 in the regional rankings and No. 4 in the nation.
