The University of
Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team scored 20 of
the first 26 points of the second half in an 80-53 loss to No. 15
UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night at Berg Gym in Stevens Point,
Wisconsin.
The Pioneers (6-11, 2-6 WIAC)
trailed 45-19 at the halftime break to the nationally-ranked
Pointers. Coming out of the halftime break, UW-Platteville scored
on nine of its first 10 possessions in the second half to cut the
UW-Stevens Point lead to 13, 53-40, when junior Jordan Johnson made
her second-straight jumper with 13:35 to go.
The Pointers (14-3, 6-2 WIAC)
answered the surge by the visitors with a 17-4 spurt of their own
to stall the momentum of the Pioneers. Three members of UW-Stevens
Point scored in double digits to contribute to the win. The
Pointers' Sam Barber had a double double with 16 points and
10 rebounds to go along with Ashley Averkamp and Brooke Allen, who
scored 16 and 14 points, respectively.
In the loss, UW-Platteville junior
Liz Lawinger scored in double digits for the 10th time on the
season and was the top scorer for the Pioneers with a 16-point
effort.
Next, The Pioneers will next face
UW-Superior, who they dropped a 69-50 decision on January 7th at 1
p.m. at Bo Ryan Court.
