University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 win over host University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium.
The Titans (8-4-2, 3-2 WIAC) got on the board in the 18th minute when Paul Marx scored his first goal of the season. Marx and UW-Oshkosh controlled possession for most of the half, building a 9 to 3 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes.
The Pioneers (8-8-1, 2-3 WIAC) struggled offensively throughout the match and senior goalkeeper Jared Kuehl had a strong game between the posts. The Oregon native had eight saves in the contest as he was one of seven seniors recognized in pre-game festivities. Also recognized were Ryan Olles, Matt Hubbard, Zach Wall, Ryan McElmeel, Dustin Wiskes and Anthony Heller.
Facing a 1-0 deficit, after the halftime break, Brandon Chmiel had a shot in the 50th minute that sailed wide. He also set up an opportunity in the 62nd minute on a free kick that UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike snagged out of the air to keep the Pioneers off the scoreboard. Pike finished the afternoon with five saves for his fifth shutout of the season.
After the save by Pike, the Titans added an insurance goal in the 68th minute when Evan Maly scored on a cross from Garrett O'Brien for the final margin.
Next, the Pioneers will host UW-Whitewater on Wednesday, Oct. 19 in its final home game of the season at 7 p.m.
