B.J. Gottschlich continued his hot scoring weekend, and Chris
Brown scored the game-winner as UW-Platteville beat St. Norbert 2-1
Sunday in the Pioneers' home opener.
Gottschlich, who had both of the Pioneers' goals in Saturday's
2-1 win over Carthage, started the scoring with a 15-yard shot
after a long pass from Mitch Cornelius.
The Green Knights' Eric Natwick tied the score in the 35h
minute, and the score remained knotted at halftime.
Four minutes into the second period, Brown rebounded Ryan
McElmeel's shot and drilled the ball into the net for what proved
to be the game-winner.
The Pioneers improved to 3-1-1, and the Green Knights fell to
1-2 in the back-and-forth contest. UWP out-shot the visitors 16-10,
while keeper Jared Kuehl making four saves and setting the Pioneer
offense up with several strong kicks.
Prior to the contest, the Pioneers held a moment of silence for
former Coach Fred Eberlein, who passed away in the summer. His wife
Shirley brought along Coach E.'s famed orange and blue director's
chair, which sat next empty next to the Pioneer bench.
