After pelting Ripon with shot after shot, UW-Platteville finally
broke through for a 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon in Pioneer
Stadium.
The Pioneers out-shot the Red Hawks 25-4, including 13-1 on
goal, but were kept scoreless until the 35th minute, when Tyler
Holle headed in a ball off Chris Brown's corner kick.
UWP scored an insurance goal in the 69th minute when Mark
Ciszewski took a long pass from B.J. Gottschlich and dribbled
through the middle of the Red Hawk defense to score.
"Opportunities were there, but we just couldn't put it away,
which made it a challenging game for us," acting coach Allison
Sanyi said. "We worked really well together, but just couldn't
anything to fall. Their goalie (Ryan Crane) played really well, but
we finally got a couple past him."
The Pioneers improved to 4-4-1 overall, while Ripon dropped to
2-5-1.
