Sharp Pioneers pound Waldorf

This time, there would be no chance for a comeback.

UW-Platteville whipped Waldorf 6-0 to halt a three-game losing skid Sunday in Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers, who held leads in two of the three losses, ran their offense with crispness and kept pressure on throughout the game. The Pioneers scored four goals in a 10:09 span in the first half to put away the Warriors.

B.J. Gottschlich scored twice, including the game's first goal at 29:20. Andrew Hanson, on a header, and Kyle Hoerter, who rebounded his own shot, also found the nets in the first half.

Mitch Cornelius made it 5-0 on a goal 1:42 into the second half, and Mark Ciszewski converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute for the 6-0 final.

The Pioneers improved to 3-3-1 overall, while the Warriors fell to 4-6. UWP outshot the visitors 29-4 and reached six goals for the third time this season.

UW-Platteville plays at Wheaton (Ill.) Tuesday. The Thunder are ranked 5th in the NCAA III Central Region poll.
