St. Thomas stunned host UW-Platteville with a goal four minutes
into the game and went on to beat the Pioneers 3-1 Sunday
afternoon.
Angel Riera drilled the ball in front of the net before the
Pioneer defense could clear the loose ball. The Tommies' Kris
O'Toole added another goal at the 41:25 mark for a 2-0 halftime
lead.
The Pioneers reved up the offensive attack in the second period,
setting themselves up with excellent scoring chances. B.J.
Gottschlich finally got through at the 67:45 mark, dribbling to the
center and scoring on a line-drive from 20 yards out.
UWP kept applying the pressure, but could not get the tying
goal. After a Pioneer foul, St. Thomas's Josh Pozner centered a
50-yard pass that Elliot Amundson headed through with 1:18 to seal
the win.
St. Thomas is now 3-3 overall, and the Pioneers fell to 2-2-1.
UWP gets right back on the field Tuesday, playing at Milwaukee
School of Engineering.
