Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

PIoneers make trip worthwhile with 10-0 win

Both UW-Platteville soccer teams notched just a little more than a goal for each hour spent on the bus, as the Pioneers made the long trip to Houghton, Mich. worth it Sunday.

The Pioneer women scored the third-most goals in program history, beating Finlandia 9-0, while the men reached double figures for the 11th time in 45 years, topping the Lions 10-0.

The official stats are still being tabulated in Houghton--which is close to the northern-most tip of the Upper Peninsula--and will be posted on the Pioneer web site as soon as they become available.

The women, who beat UW-Superior 8-0 Saturday, improved to 6-6-2 overall. The men, who started the trip with a 1-0 win in Superior, assured themselves of at least playing for a share of a conference championship when they face UW-Oshkosh Nov. 1. The Pioneers are 7-4-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the new Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Finlandia was added to the men's soccer league this year, bringing the WIAC to five members in that sport, enough for a championship to be decided.

UPDATE: Mario Millonzi scored twice in the opening 5:07, and Brandon Chmiel also scored a pair of first-half goals. Six others scored single goals for the Pioneers, who led 7-0 at the half. The boxscore is now posted.
