Getting to Know Sam
What do you plan to bring to the UW-Platteville baseball program in 2020?
I plan on helping my team through positive leadership and being a calming presence in the dugout when adversity strikes.
What is your nickname? How did you get it and who gave it to you?
My nickname is Smiling Sam. In youth baseball, our announcer Bill would introduce me as "Smiling Sam Behm" because I couldn't stop smiling when I came in to pitch.
Who are the role models in your life and why?
I look up to both of my parents because they give their kids so much with so little.
Who or what inspired you to play baseball and why?
My dad inspired a love of the game. Since I old enough to walk, we would be outside playing catch or whiffle ball. We also watched the baseball together any chance we got.
Favorite baseball moment as a Pioneer or in high school if you are a freshman?
My favorite moment as a Pioneer was beating Oshkosh to send us to the conference tournament for the first time in 10 years.
If you were a superhero what would your name be and what superpower would you have?
Call me the Flying Ging.
Pre-game rituals or game day superstitions:
I've tried my best to remove superstition from the game, yet I will never step on the line before a game.

Quirky, Calculated, Softhearted.
What advice would you give to future Pioneers?
I would tell them to stay focused on your goals but soak in all of the moments; someday these will be the 'good ole days'.
If you won a million dollars what would you buy?
I would buy a Tesla.
What is one thing you would put on your bucket list?
Travel the world!
What place would you like to visit most?
The Pyramids of Giza!
What are your hobbies away from baseball?
Traveling, Spending time with family, and studying business.
Favorite sports team/player?
Favorite team: Chicago Cubs. Favorite athlete: Patrick Mahomes

I have a kitten named Luna!
If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
The king of the jungle.
Is there anything you like to eat or any food combination you have been called "weird" for liking?
Some people don't share my enjoyment of green olives.
