Getting to Know Jonathan

What do you plan to bring to the UW-Platteville baseball program in 2020?
Speed, quickness to the ball, and a ton of energy.

What is your nickname? How did you get it and who gave it to you?
Sometimes when I steal bases I'll hear, "he's a slippery man," from the dugout. I used to get called "Konny Jelso" in high school. Otherwise I usually just get Kelso.

Who are the role models in your life and why?
My parents are my role models because they do things the right way. They have set a great example for me and I'm very thankful to have them both.

Who or what inspired you to play baseball and why?
My dad played at Triton college and inspired me to play the game through his wisdom and enthusiasm for the game.

Favorite baseball moment as a Pioneer or in high school if you are a freshman?
Making the WIAC tournament when we took the series from Oshkosh during the 2019 season. We had come so far from going 10-30 the year before.

If you were a superhero what would your name be and what superpower would you have?
My name would be Jonny Chan. Just like the hulk gets mad and turns green, i would channel my energy to turn into a blue and orange freak of super speed and quickness.

Pre-game rituals or game day superstitions:
Right before either team takes the field, Coach Hanner and I take a couple steps toward each other, jump, and bump in the air. It's usually followed by a loud, "WHOOOOOO". Gets the juices flowing.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Passionate, Hard-Working, Conscientious

What advice would you give to future Pioneers?
Always look for ways to get better and listen to your coaches. You can't learn as much going rogue.

If you won a million dollars what would you buy?
I'd buy a nice house with an in-ground pool on a good chunk of land, amenities galore. Then I'd grab a nice lake house, a yacht, and a decked out jeep wrangler. Whatever remains I'll invest.

What is one thing you would put on your bucket list?
Skydiving

What place would you like to visit most?
Scotland

What are your hobbies away from baseball?
I play video games, shoot hoops, and enjoy a good book once in a while.

Favorite sports team/player?
Shohei Ohtani

Favorite movie?
Dan in Real Life

Do you have any pets? If yes, what kind and what are their names?
I have 2 dogs. An Airedale Terrier named Dixie and a Maltese named Fluffy.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
An eagle. They are very free and self sufficient.

Is there anything you like to eat or any food combination you have been called "weird" for liking?
When I go out to eat I'll always order a side of lemons or limes to eat with my food. I'll salt them up and eat everything except the rind and whoever I'm with flips out..until they try it themselves.
