High School: Won four letters in baseball and one in basketball at Preston HS ...  was a four-time first-team all-conference selection, the conference MVP his senior year and a three-time all-state selection ... posted a 1.52 ERA in his senior year and a 1.33 ERA his junior year ... hit .532 with 45 RBIs his junior year and posted a .431 average his senior year ... in basketball, became Preston’s all-time leading scorer with more than 1,200 points, was twice selected to the all-conference team, and led the state of Iowa in made 3-point field goals and 3-point percentage.
