Davis Hands Pioneers Win Over Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Sophomore Devyn Devis scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (1-2-0) earned a 2-1 win over Mount Union (1-1-0) on Sunday afternoon inside Kehres Stadium.

Sophomore Mira Petri broke through for the Pioneers late in the first half, scoring her first goal of the season in the 41st minute. Mount Union had a share of scoring opportunities in the half as well, but senior goalkeeper Marguerite Mueller made three saves to keep UW-Platteville in front at the break.

The Purple Raiders evened the score right out of halftime in the 47th minute following a corner kick. Just ten minutes later, Davis netted her first goal of the year to put the Pioneers ahead for good.
Mueller made one more save in the closing minutes to help the Pioneers hang on for the one-goal win. She finished with four total saves en route to earning her first win in goal this season.

Mount Union held an 8-6 advantage in shots over the course of the match, but shots on goal were even at five apiece. Davis and senior Alyssa Jarock each had a shot on target among Pioneers starters, while junior Bailee Anders and sophomores Raven Rogers and Petri added shots on goal off the bench.

The Pioneers return to Platteville to kick off a five-game homestead on Wednesday night against Augustana (Ill.) Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
