PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville football team, volleyball team, and both soccer teams will each play conference games this week, while cross country heads to Minnesota on Saturday. Men's and women's soccer both open WIAC action at home this weekend.
Women's Soccer Begins WIAC Play Saturday
The Pioneers women's soccer team enters the week having won two straight and will travel to Dubuque on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. contest. UW-Platteville then hosts UW-Stout Polytechnic on Saturday to open WIAC play at 4 p.m.
Dubuque will play a third consecutive WIAC opponent this week after losing to UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire in its previous two matches. Now 2-4-2 on the year, the Spartans have gotten four goals from Rylie Mensik.
The Blue Devils are 4-4-2 this season after falling to Lawrence this past weekend. UW-Stout is led by Kayla White's six goals this season, but the defense is allowing a WIAC-high 1.50 goals against per game.
Men's Soccer Plays Twice this Week
The Pioneers men's soccer team looks to snap a two-game losing streak this week starting on Wednesday night at North Park. UW-Platteville then returns home to begin conference play on Saturday at 7 p.m. against UW-Stevens Point.
North Park was receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches rankings and have won four straight game to sit at 6-1-2. Gustav Finer leads the team with five goals, while Bastian Eikeland has three goals and a pair of assists.
The Pointers got back to 4-4-0 on the year after beating Coe 3-2 this past weekend. Jaxon Buckley is tied for first in the WIAC with five goals this season.
Volleyball Travels to Play Four Matches
It will be a busy week for the Pioneers volleyball team, as they play four matches, starting at Loras on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. UW-Platteville then travels to UW-River Falls on Friday at 7 p.m. and will play two matches Saturday at the UW-River Falls Tournament against St. Catherine and Saint Benedict.
The Duhawks have lost six of seven matches to fall to 6-10 overall on the season. Cydney Tath leads the attack with 2.76 kills per set, while Cat Meyer adds 2.55 per set.
The Falcons were swept their conference opener to No. 1 UW-Oshkosh but are still 8-3 on the year. Amanda Baumann leads the WIAC in hitting percentage at .353, while Emily Brenner leads the team with 2.74 kills per set.
St. Catherine is 2-11 this season, while Saint Benedict sits at 6-7 after losing four straight.
Football Begins Conference Play at UW-Stout
Fresh off the bye week, the Pioneers football team travels to UW-Stout Polytechni on Saturday to begin WIAC action at 1 p.m.
The Blue Devils picked up wins over Dubuque and Augustana to begin the season before falling at Roosevelt in week three. Quarterback Chase Pemberton leads the conference in passing yards this season with 870, with Davonte Evans his favorite target with 279 yards and all four of Pemberton's touchdown passes.
Cross Country Runs in Minnesota Saturday
The Pioneers cross country team returns to Minnesota after a week off to run at the Running of the Cows meet hosted by Carleton College on Saturday. Competition takes place in Northfield starting at 11 a.m.
