PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams are in action this week, with men's and women's soccer and volleyball all competing at home this week. Women's golf nears the WIAC Championships and will travel for the Midwest Region Classic this weekend.
Women's Soccer wraps up homestand Wednesday
The Pioneers women's soccer team concludes a five-game homestand this week with a 5 p.m. contest against Simpson on Wednesday. UW-Platteville then heads to Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday to play at 3:30 p.m.
The Storm battled UW-Eau Claire to a scoreless draw over the weekend to get to 3-2-2 overall on the season. Ally Hoffa and Savannah Schneider pace the team with three goals apiece this season.
The Falcons are 2-4-0 this season following a 5-2 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran this past weekend. CUW faces Aurora on Wednesday night, with Koffy'e Chappel leading the team with four goals this season.
Volleyball opens WIAC play Friday
The Pioneers volleyball team will play two home matches this week, starting with a 7 p.m. meeting with Dubuque on Wednesday night. On Friday, UW-Platteville begins conference action with a 7 p.m. match against UW-Stevens Point.
The Spartans enter the week having won eight straight matches to sit at 11-2 overall on the year. Four of those eight wins have come via sweep, including against Lawrence and St. Mary's over the weekend. Delainey Winkel leads the attack at 4.48 kills per set.
The Pointers are 5-5 overall this season coming off a recent loss to Bethel. Nine different players are averaging at least one kill per set, with Carly Thomka (2.17) and Lauren Shaw (2.11) pacing the team.
Men's Soccer at home Wednesday night
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Pioneers men's soccer team returns home to face Loras on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. UW-Platteville then travels to Simpson on Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest.
The Duhawks improved to 4-1-0 on the year behind back-to-back shutouts of Carroll and Kalamazoo. Loras' defense and strong goalkeeping from Alexander Drexler have limited opponents to just 0.40 goals per game, with Drexler posting a .900 save percentage.
Simpson dropped to 1-2-2 on the season after getting shutout by Carleton this past weekend. The Storm will travel to play Webster on Wednesday before hosting UW-Platteville on Saturday evening.
Women's Golf competes at Benedictine Invite
With just a couple weeks until the WIAC Championship, the Pioneers women's golf team travels to Kansasville, Wisconsin for the two-day Midwest Region Classic hosted by Benedictine. Competition will take place at Brighton Dale Golf Links.
