CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (6-2) extended its winning streak to five Wednesday night as the team swept Coe College (3-5) in three sets inside Kohawk Arena.
The Pioneers tallied 10 service aces, with five coming off the serve of sophomore
Delali Amankwa, while posting a .363 hitting percentage across eth three sets.
Junior
Brooklyn Radecke finished with a team-high 12 kills while senior
Bria Johnston also reached double-digit kills with 10. Sophomore
Grace Rohde finished with a team-high .538 hitting percentage behind seven kills and Amankwa accounted for a team-high 22 assists.
The first set started as a back-and-forth contest until a kill and ace by the Kohawks gave the home team a 9-6 edge. The Pioneers responded with a 5-0 run, including a kill by Radecke and an ace by Amankwa. A kill and an ace by Coe knotted the set at 17, but six unanswered points, including three straight aces by Amankwa at the end, closed out the set 25-18.
Tied 5-5 to start the second set, Radecke and Rohde got to work banking four kills to pull ahead 10-6. The momentum continued and as the Pioneers started to pull ahead and UW-Platteville stung together seven-straight points, including four kills from Radecke. Coe had a little four-point rally, but a service error awarded the 25-16 victory to the Pioneers.
The third set saw four lead change with neither team leading by more than two points before either team got to double digits. From there, Coe went ahead 13-10, but UW-Platteville answered with nine-straight points, including three kills from junior
Abby Bauer and a block from seniors
Kennedy Wenger and Johnston. Once again, the Kohawks rallied, scoring six of the next nine points, but a kill and ace by Johnston brought on match-point and another ace by Johnston sealed the deal for the Pioneers third-straight victory in three sets.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday when they host MSOE inside Williams Fieldhouse in their home opener on Friday at 5 p.m.
