CLERMONT, FL – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team dropped a pair of games on Tuesday at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Pioneers dropped a narrow 3-1 loss to Rowan University before a rally in the seventh inning saw Nazareth University comeback to win 7-5 in the second game.
Game One
Rowan struck early in the first game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. It wasn't until the fourth inning when junior
Allison Peters homered to center field to cut the Owls' lead in half, 2-1. Rowan's third and final run of the game also came off of another home run, this time in the fifth inning.
Peters paced the Pioneers at the plate, going 2-for-3 in game one.
Freshman
Avery Lundblad (0-1) tossed a complete game, striking out one, walking three and allowing eight hits and three runs.
Game Two
The Golden Flyers jumped out to a one-run lead in the first inning of the second game, but a tying run scored in the bottom of the third inning off an error and that made way for a four-inning score streak for the Pioneers. UW-Platteville's two runs in the sixth inning put the Pioneers comfortably ahead, 5-1 with one inning to go. Unfortunately, Nazareth went on a six-run rally, including two home runs and a two-RBI triple, to pull ahead, 7-5.
Freshman
Delila Liston finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI while Peters added another RBI on 2-for-4.
The Pioneers will take a day off in Florida before returning to action on Thursday for games against Bates College and Ithaca College at 9 and 11:15 a.m. (CST).
