CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (7-4) split in a pair of games on Monday, beating UMass Dartmouth (4-1) 4-3 before falling 4-2 to Cortland (2-5) to conclude the day from Clermont, Florida.
Game One
Junior
Rylee Broshous got the Pioneers on the board first against UMass Dartmouth with a two-out RBI double to center that scored freshman
Delila Liston in the top of the second inning. Freshman
Kaia McVay added to the lead in the same frame by driving in Broshous with a single to right field.
The Corsairs answered with one run in the bottom half of the second on a squeeze play before scoring two more on a single in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Broshous responded for UW-Platteville in the fourth with a solo home run to tie the game.
Both teams were scoreless for the next couple innings, until junior
Allison Peters drove in senior
Caitlin Giacomo with a two-out single in the sixth to put the Pioneers in front. Freshman
Nora Buske held the Corsairs without a run the final two innings, including working around a pair of baserunners in the seventh, to earn the win.
Buske entered in relief and threw 4.1 shutout innings to collect her second win on the season. She struck out two while allowing just two hits.
Liston finished with a team-high three hits as the Pioneers totaled 11 as a team in the win. Peters, Broshous, and McVay also recorded multi-hit games.
Game Two
Cortland put up a pair of runs in the second inning to take the early lead, but senior
Calli Storms cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single that scored junior
Taylor Lynch.
The Red Dragons tacked on another run in the third and one final run in the sixth to increase the lead to 4-1. Peters got one back for UW-Platteville in the bottom of the sixth with a single that scored Broshous, but following a near hour long weather delay, Cortland hung on to win 4-2.
Senior
Carlie Jo Brownlee was dealt the loss for the Pioneers after giving up the first two runs across 1.1 innings. Junior
Avery Lundblad tossed the final 4.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out two.
At the plate, UW-Platteville mustered two runs on five hits, with Broshous' double the lone extra base knock.

The Pioneers have two more games lined up for tomorrow, starting with an 11:15 a.m. contest against Rowan. The second game takes place at 1:30 p.m. against Nazareth.
