Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 21 Pioneers Knock Off Previously Unbeaten No. 3 Titans

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 21 University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team stunned No. 3 ranked UW-Oshkosh with a major 47-43 upset win at the Kolf Sports Center, Wednesday night. It is the first loss of the season for the Titans (19-1, 8-1 WIAC) and the first victory for the Pioneers (16-4, 6-3 WIAC) against UW-Oshkosh since November of 2022.

Trailing by seven with 9:33 left in the game, the Pioneers scored 10 unanswered points to take a 40-37 lead at the 4:30 mark. The Titans cut it to a one-point game, but senior Ella Mackiewicz drained a three-pointer to make it a 43-39 advantage for UW-Platteville with 2:12 on the clock. UW-Oshkosh scored the next four points to tie the game with 0:42 on the board.

The Pioneers called a timeout regained the lead off a jump shot by senior Madalyn Reichmann, forcing a Titans timeout with 0:29 on the clock. A critical turnover gave possession back to UW-Platteville and junior Tatum Weir's layup pushed UW-Platteville's advantage to 47-43 with five seconds to go.

The game started as a low scoring affair as both defenses held their opponent to 18 points each in the first half. The Titans led by four at the end of the third quarter and pushed that advantage to seven before Reichmann fueled the 10-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter by draining a three-pointer and then the next layup.

Mackiewicz paced all players with 14 points and added six rebounds and two blocks. Weir also finished in double digits with 10 points while Reichmann closed the night with nine points and a game-high three assists.

The Pioneers shot 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the field, including 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from beyond the arc, and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the foul line.

The Titans finished 34 percent (16-of-47) from the floor, 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from three-point range, and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the free throw line.

UW-Platteville held advantages in rebounds (40-30), turnovers (11-13), and blocks (5-4).

Wednesday also marked the first time this season that an opponent held UW-Oshkosh to under 50 points.

The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, February 7 when they host UW-La Crosse at 3 p.m. on Senior Day.
