PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – A penalty kick goal in the 80th minute from graduate student
Leah Ahlers was all the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (2-1-0) needed to beat St. Scholastica (0-2-1) by a score of 1-0 in the 2025 home opener on Friday evening inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneers Stadium.
The Pioneers dominated possession throughout the contest and finished with a 20-2 advantage in total shots. St. Scholastica attempted both of its shots in the opening half, before UW-Platteville's defense held the Saints to no scoring opportunities across the final 45 minutes. Neither of St. Scholastica's shot attempts were on frame, helping the Pioneers record their second shutout of the season.
UW-Platteville had nine shots (four on goal) in the first half, but St. Scholastica's back line held strong to keep the game scoreless. The Pioneers upped the pressure in the second half, adding 11 more shots (five on goal) but it wasn't until a foul in the box in the 80th minute via a tripping call that they finally broke through. Ahlers came through on the penalty kick, firing a shot to the right of the Saints keeper, who had guessed left on the attempt.

Alli Seegers and freshman
Raven Rogers leading the way with three apiece. In goal, freshman
Sophia Vriesema was credited with the win.
The Pioneers will travel to Augustana (Ill.) tomorrow morning for an 11 a.m. contest.
