WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team's (20-21) season came to a close on Friday afternoon in the WIAC Tournament, falling 15-3 to UW-Oshkosh before dropping a 12-0 game to UW-Whitewater to end the day from Prucha Field in Whitewater.
Game One
UW-Oshkosh struck early, scoring twice in the first inning before adding five more runs over the next two frames to build a 7-0 lead. The Pioneers scored one run in each of the next three innings, but the Titans continued to add to the lead and later scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the advantage to 15-3.
Junior Sam Meidenbauer and senior Jake Wegner each drove in runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 10-run game, but the Titans got a strikeout to secure the seven-inning win.
Meidenbauer put together a three-hit performance for the Pioneers, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Caleb Parker also had a mutli-hit game, and UW-Platteville recorded 10 total hits in the loss.
On the mound, junior Jordan Stanton was charged with the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) across 2.2 innings.
Game Two
After a scoreless first, UW-Whitewater jumped out in front with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Warhawks showcased some power over the next couple innings, hitting a home run in the third inning before tallying three more in the fifth to help push the lead to 12. Another run in the sixth led to the 13-0 final score in seven innings.
Five different Pioneers had a hit in the loss including Parker, Wegner, Fago, freshman Anthony Massa, and senior Brady Katterhagen.
Senior Isaac Bixby was dealt the loss after giving up five runs in the first four innings.
