Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pioneers Fall to Flying Dutchmen on Saturday

HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team's (6-3) comeback run fell short on Saturday as the Pioneers loss 84-74 at Hope College (5-2) in DeVos Fieldhouse.

Despite the outcome, senior Max Love had a career day of 29 points as he went 5-of-10 from three-point territory and 6-of-6 at the foul line. Senior Joey Fuhremann also had a standout day with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds and junior Bristol Lewis also finished in double figures with 16 points.

The double-digit performances were not enough to overcome an afternoon plagued with turnovers and foul trouble. Hope forced 15 turnovers while 28 fouls against the Pioneers led to 31-of 42 shooting from the foul line for the Dutchmen.

Ten minutes into the game, the Pioneers led 19-13, but Hope rode 60 percent shooting from the floor to a 42-35 lead at halftime. The Dutchmen carried that momentum into the start of the second half and four minutes in, they led 51-37. Love knocked down a three and accounted for the next 13 Platteville points as back-to-back three pointers cut Hope's lead to 65-59.

With 2:19 on the clock, UW-Platteville had cut the lead to four points, but 12 of the next and final 14 points by Hope came in the form of made free throws to close out the game.

The Pioneers shot 40  percent (24-of-60) from the floor while the Flying Dutchmen shot 52.2 percent (24-of-46). UW-Platteville finished 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from deep while holding Hope to 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from beyond the arc. Shooting similar percentages from the charity stripe, the Pioneers were 15-of-21 (71.4 percent) while the Dutchmen finished 31-of-42 (73.8 percent).

UW-Platteville will return to action on Monday, Dec. 29 when they take on Hanover College at the Wooster Kiwanis Classic.
