CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team cruised to a Tuesday night sweep at Coe College. The Pioneers (20-4) swept the Kohawks (16-7) 25-11, 26-24, and 25-16 inside Kohawk Arena.
UW-Platteville hit .257 while holding Coe to .071.
Three Pioneers notched double-digit kills as Delaney Graves, Kennedy Wenger and Emma Carlson each tallied 10 kills with Graves and Wenger hitting .556. Graves also added two block assists.
Gracie Gibbens had 34 assists and Bri Gartner tallied 21 digs.
Back-to-back kills by Graves and Carlson gave the Pioneers a 10-3 lead in the first set and the pace continued to the 25-11 win.
The second set was a much closer affair which saw four tied scores before a 9-3 run gave UW-Platteville a 15-9 lead. Coe rallied and a 6-0 run set up the Kohawks for a 24-22 set-point. A kill by Graves kept the set alive and an ace by Carlson tied the set 24-24. An attacking error gave set-point to the Pioneers and the set finished with a block by Graves and Brooklyn Radecke.
The final set began with another hot start by UW-Platteville, but after taking an 11-4 lead, Coe rallied with a 10-3 run to tie the frame 14-14. The teams exchanged points until the Pioneers finished stong on a 7-0 run to complete the sweep.
UW-Platteville will return to action on Friday, October 25 when the team hosts UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
