Pioneers Fall Twice Against Eagles On Monday

MARION, Iowa – In the final two games of a four-game series against UW-La Crosse (14-3, 7-1 WIAC), the University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (5-12, 2-6 WIAC) fell by scores of 10-0 and 6-1 to the Eagles at Prospect Meadows in Marion, Iowa.

The Eagles were in control throughout game one, as they scored all 10 runs between the second and fifth innings. Defensive miscues hurt the Pioneers in the game, as five of the 10 runs scored were unearned. UW-La Crosse held UW-Platteville hitless in the seven-inning game and allowed just five batters to reach base via walk.

Sophomore Isaac Bixby was dealt the loss in the first game after allowing five runs (two earned) in four innings of work. Junior Jake Schneider pitched the final three innings for the Pioneers and allowed no runs while striking out six.

In game two, the Eagles struck first with a three-run home run to right center in the third inning and added a fourth run in the fifth on an RBI single. In the bottom of the sixth, the Pioneers scored on a throwing error after a grounder by senior Mitchell McLaughlin to make it 4-1 but UW-La Crosse tacked on two more in the seventh to eventually win 6-1.

UW-Platteville finished with three hits in game two, with freshman Spencer Robertson, sophomore Justin Fago, and junior Hunter Hopkins each tallying one. Senior Brandon Molldrem was handed the loss after giving up four runs in five innings.

The Pioneers continue WIAC play this upcoming weekend with a four-game trip to play UW-Stout on Friday and Saturday. Friday's contests are set for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. with Saturday's games at noon and 3 p.m.
