Pioneers Swept By Titans Sunday

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (10-20, 7-13 WIAC) was swept by UW-Oshkosh (22-6, 13-3 WIAC) by scores of 17-2 and 7-4 in a road doubleheader on Sunday afternoon from Alumni Field in Oshkosh.

A nine-run first inning put UW-Oshkosh ahead in game one before UW-Platteville got two back in the second on a single by freshman Spencer Robertson and a wild pitch that scored freshman Charlie Breen. The Titans added three more in the bottom half of the second to increase the lead to 10. After a couple of scoreless innings, UW-Oshkosh scored once in the fifth and four times in the sixth to clinch the 17-2 win in seven innings.

The Pioneers finished with seven hits in game one, with sophomore Justin Fago finishing 2-for-3. Sophomore Isaac Bixby was charged with the loss after failing to make it through the first inning.

The Titans got the scoring started in game two with an RBI single in the second inning. UW-Oshkosh plated two more in both the fourth and sixth innings to lead 5-0 until senior Mitchell McLaughlin doubled in the top of seventh to get UW-Platteville on the board. The Pioneers cut the deficit down to one with a three-run eighth as junior Jordan Collins knocked in two with a single and freshman Ian Merry plated another. But the Titans scored twice in their half of the eighth to hold off the Pioneers rally and win 7-4.

The Pioneers tallied eight hits in game two led by a two-hit performance by senior Grant Mullins. Senior Brandon Molldrem was dealt the loss in the game and he fell to 2-3 on the year.

UW-Platteville will face Loras in a road non-conference game on Tuesday night. First pitch will be at 7 p.m.
