PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (5-2-3, 1-1-1 WIAC) earned its first conference win of the season on Saturday night with a 1-0 win over UW-Eau Claire (6-3-3, 1-1-1 WIAC) inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Junior Arianna Lombardi scored the deciding goal in the 30th minute, putting the Pioneers in front 1-0. The goal was her fifth of the season, and junior Lydia Smith was credited with the assist, her third on the campaign.
For the match, UW-Platteville outshot the UW-Eau Claire 13-6, including 6-2 in shots on net. The Pioneers controlled the possession for much of the second half to keep the Blugolds from finding much of a rhythm while attacking.
Lombardi attempted a team-high five shots, with three finishing on frame. Smith tallied three shots and two on goal, while senior Vanessa Peterson and freshman Sophie Carlos each added a pair of shots.
In goal, Juliana Penniston collected her first win of the season while tallying a pair of saves. The Pioneers defense continues to be a strong point for the team as they sit second in the conference with a 0.50 goals against average and a .848 save percentage.
The Pioneers welcome North Park to town tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match. UW-Platteville will also be celebrating Senior Day.
*As with every UW-Platteville win this year, the Platteville A&W will be offering a $3 Pioneer burger the day after the win and the Platteville Taco John's will be offering 10 tacos for $10 the day after each Pioneer win.
