VERONA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team dropped a single non-conference game to Edgewood College 7-4 Wednesday night at Stampfl Field.
The Pioneers (4-11) outhit the Eagles (10-6) 13-9 while starting pitcher Nathan Manthei threw 12 strikeouts in six innings pitched for Edgewood.
Ben Espinoza led the Pioneers at the plate going 3-4 and tallying one run. Freshman Dillon Sunnquist made it into the lineup mid-way into the game and went 2-3 for a career best.
A trio of Pioneers from the bullpen appeared in the game. Rich Jesse Jr (0-2) started on the mound and struck out four and walked four while allowing two hits and three runs. He was relieved by Jake Schneider and Dominic Buono.
The Pioneers will return to action this weekend when they face Finlandia University in a four-game WIAC series on Kendall Murray Field.
