Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second Half Comeback Fuels Titans

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team built a 10-point halftime lead at national #23 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh but was unable to hang during a big second half comeback as the Titans overtook the Pioneers in the fourth quarter and then held on for a 66-56 victory.  For Platteville, it was the team's fourth straight loss, dropping the team's record to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Titans, playing in its first game since January 5th, improved to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC.

In the first half, the Titans had no answers for Pioneer forward Maiah Domask (Sr./Waupun, Wis.).  The reigning WIAC Player of the Week shot 7-8 FG, including 2-3 on three-pointers en route to registering 16 of Platteville's 29 points at the break.  The Pioneers brought the energy on the defensive end as well, holding the Titans to a season-low 19 points after two quarters.

After hitting on just 28% of its shots in the first half including 1-6 from long range, the Titans heated up out of the gates in the third.  A 3-pt basket from Titan guard Kennedy Osterman on the team's 2nd possession was the first of three in the quarter as UWO was able to trim its deficit to three, 43-40 heading into the fourth.

An Abby Kaiser layup just over a minute into the fourth gave Oshkosh its first lead of the game, 44-43.  While the Pioneer offense struggled, scoring just one basket in the first 5+ minutes of the final frame, the Titans continued to pull away.  Oshkosh shot 62% FG in the second half and went 8-8 from the free throw line in the game's final minutes to secure the come-from-behind win.

UWO's All-Conference senior Leah Porath scored 12 of her team-high 19 points in the second half.

Domask finished the game with 22 points and 9 rebounds.  Aspyn Stewart (Sr./Stockton, Ill.) chipped in 9 points on 3-6 shooting from behind the arc.

Platteville returns home Saturday, January 22nd, for a WIAC re-match with UW-Stout.  The Blue Devils won the first meeting between the two teams back on January 8th in Menomonie, 60-45.  It will be Alumni Day at the Williams Fieldhouse and game time is set for 3p.
