PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team was defeated by Loras College 3-0 Thursday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Duhawks (6-3-0 overall), who had been ranked nationally as high as #17 earlier in the season, entered Thursday's game with a three-game losing stretch and snapped the streak with a hat trick by sophomore Ryleigh O'Brien. Loras opened up the scoring against the Pioneers (1-7-1 overall) in the 17th minute when Katie Straznickas found O'Brien to give the Duhawks the 1-0 advantage. O'Brien scored two minutes later and once again in the first minute of the second half to complete the hat trick and give Loras the lead 3-0.
Senior Kirstin Semenchuk had a team high two shots with one on goal and Senior Kathryn Flaherty tallied 12 saves in the first 84 minutes of play.
Overall, Loras held a 27-5 advantage on shots and 15-2 advantage on corner kicks.
The Pioneers will return to play next Wednesday, Oc.t 2 when they travel to the University of Dubuque for a 7 p.m. start.
