Pioneers build early lead in victory

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball defeated University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 81-66 on Monday night on Bo Ryan Court.

The Pioneers improve to 10-11 overall (4-6 WIAC) while the Blugolds drop to 13-8 overall (4-6 WIAC). With this win, the Pioneers move into a 3-way tie for fifth place in the conference.

By the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers led by 19 points and didn't look back. The Pioneer lead was comfortable throughout the game and with the smallest lead being 11 points with 1:20 left in the second quarter.

Junior Morgan Horstman scored eight of her 16 points in the first quarter to lead the Pioneers to their 25-6 lead. Senior Kassie Hansen had three assists in the quarter. 

Sophomore Maiah Domask finished with a double double including a team high 21 points on 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the field and 11 rebounds while adding three assists and two steals. Sophomore Caitlyn Tipton had an efficient 18 points and shot 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Tipton added four rebounds and two steals.

The Pioneers travel on Wednesday, Feb. 6 to face UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
