Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pioneers get off to hot start, beat UW-Stout

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The UW-Platteville Pioneers men's basketball team defeated the UW-Stout Blue Devils 83-73 on Saturday night. With the win the Pioneers improve to 12-7 and 5-3 in WIAC play.

The Pioneers got off to a hot start from the floor on Saturday night shooting 71.9% from the field and 46.2% from the three-point line in the first half. Their defense also limited the Blue Devils to 37.0% shooting from the field and the Pioneers forced 9 turnovers in the first half where they raced to a 26 point edge at intermission. In the second half the Pioneers got a little sloppy with their play but were able to hold onto a much needed victory after dropping a game earlier in the week.

For the game the Pioneers were led offensively by senior Robert Duax. Duax scored 25 points and shot a blistering 10-13 from the field. Sophomore Quentin Shields also chipped in 14 points and 7 assists. The bench gave quality minutes all night but especially Justin Fox and Blake McCann who both chipped in 11 points each.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday Jan. 30th at UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
