Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pioneers split weekend at UW-La Crosse Tournament

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team split the weekend at the UW-La Crosse Tournament in Mitchell Hall. The Pioneers fell 64-70 on Saturday night against Augsburg University and came back to top the Finlandia Lions Sunday afternoon 60-40. Sophomore Maiah Domask earned a place on the All-Tournament team while recording her second double-double of the season against Augsburg.

Domask's big night tallying 22 points and 15 rebounds on Saturday combined with Morgan Horstman's 17 points was not enough to overcome the undefeated Augsburg Auggies.  The Pioneers were able narrow the gap to within a two-point game 58-56 with three minutes remaining until the Auggies pulled away to secure the win.

The Pioneers finished the night shooting 46 percent from the field over Augsburg's 32.8 percent.  However, the Pioneers' 22 turnovers combined with the Auggies' 31 points from the bench improved Augsburg to 4-0 while the Pioneers dropped to 1-3.

Looking to bounce back Sunday, the Pioneers shot 47.3 percent from the field in the first half while going 4-for-4 from the 3-point range over Finlandia to take an early lead.

Leading the Pioneers' scoring for the day was Caitlyn Tiption with 11 points.  Also shooting double digits was Kassie Hansen with 10 points while Domask added eight points with a team high eight rebounds.

The Pioneers concluded the day shooting 42.4 percent from the field with 32 in the paint and 25 points coming off the bench. UW-Platteville improved to 2-3 overall while Finlandia fell to 0-7 overall.

The Pioneers return to action and to Bo Ryan Court on Wednesday, Nov. 28 as they host Luther at 7 p.m.
