Late surge lifts Pioneers to win

UW-Platteville closed the game with a 10-4 run over the final 2:16 to defeat host UW-Stout 88-83 Saturday afternoon in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

Trailing 79-78, the Pioneers took the lead for good on Maiah Domask's jump shot with just over two minutes remaining. After both teams missed chances, Rachel Emendorfer made a layup with 49 seconds left for an 82-79 advantage. Kassie Buchholz made 5-6 free throws and Allison Prestegaard 1-2 down the stretch to seal the game for the Pioneers.

UW-Platteville improved to 6-13 overall and 2-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while UW-Stout slipped to 7-12, 0-8.

The Pioneers had six players in double figures in scoring, with Buchholz getting 16, Miranda Meland 14, Domask 13, and Blaire Lutes, Jalen Knowlton and Caitlyn Tipton all with 10.

After beating the Blue Devils back on Jan. 3, the Pioneers completed a season sweep of UW-Stout for the first time since the 1989-90 season.

Coach Megan Wilson's club reached 80 points for the fifth time this season, with four of those games ending in victories.

Kyncaide Diedrich paced the Blue Devils with 21 points, with Bailey Diersen scoring 15, and Anna Brown and Carolyn Feddema 13. Stout connected on 31 of its 46 two-point attempts (67.4 percent), but just 3-24 of its three-point shots (12.5 percent).
