Pioneers heat up on O, beat St. Mary's 84-60

Hot-shooting UW-Platteville scored 42 points in each half and beat St. Mary's 84-60 Saturday in the Just A Game Classic in Wisconsin Dells.
 
Robert Duax made 12-16 from the field and scored a game-high 27 points for the Pioneers, who shot 55 percent from the field. Clay Gerds scored 17 points, and Carter Voelker added 13 for Coach Jeff Gard's club.
 
Fifteen Pioneers saw game action and nine scored, helping the Pioneers improve to 10-1. UW-Platteville made 13-22 from the field and all 12 free throw attempts in the first half, taking a 42-26 lead into the neutral-site locker room. For the game, the Pioneers made 29-53 from the field, including 9-23 three-point shots, and 17-18 from the line.
 
James Cullen had 16 points and David Linstrand 11 for St. Mary's, from Winona, Minnesota. The Cardinals dropped to 1-9 overall.
 
The Pioneers begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday at UW-Stout, with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
