PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team split a doubleheader with the Marian University (Wis.) Sabres, defeating them 10-0 in the first game and falling 9-5 in the second, bringing their overall record to 9-4 on the season.
The Pioneer pitchers threw a shutout performance in the first game, letting the Sabres get only two hits the entire game. Junior pitcher
Lucas Keller earned the win, adding to his undefeated 4-0 record on the season.
The big hit of the game came in the fourth inning for the Pioneers when junior
Max Meitzler homered to left field, bringing in two RBIs to start the Pioneers' big four-run inning.
Senior
Casey Schroeder also played well in the win for the Pioneers, logging two hits, two RBIs and completing a double play as shortstop to boost the team to the 10-0 victory.
In the second game, the Pioneers found themselves down early, but quickly caught up to lead the game 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning before the Sabres fired back a run to tie the game at three apiece.
After a big six-run inning by the Sabres in the bottom of the seventh, the Pioneers earned two more runs by the top of the ninth, but couldn't close the 9-5 gap any farther.
The Pioneers return to doubleheader action on Saturday, April 2 at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
