Pioneers' fast start not enough to overcome Blue Devils

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team fell to the UW-Stout Blue Devils 99-71 on Saturday in Stout for their final game of the 2015-16 season. The Pioneers went 5-20 overall and 2-12 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Freshman Morgan Horstman and junior Elisa Bilderback both played well for the Pioneers, logging 16 and 15 points respectively, with Bilderback recording eight rebounds and three assists. Horstman also tacked on six rebounds and five assists in the loss.

After a quick 6-0 start to the game, the Pioneers led the Blue Devils 23-19 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Pioneers held their lead throughout the entire quarter, getting ahead by eight points at the 2:04 mark, but finishing the quarter ahead 40-37 at the break.

After the Blue Devils took the lead at the beginning of the third, they never looked back, going on a 10-0 run to lead the Pioneers 59-44 before a freshman Lexis Macomber layup broke the Stout momentum.

With the Pioneer effort late in the third, the Blue Devils still led 77-55 to start the final quarter of play.

In the fourth, the Pioneers couldn't quite close the Blue Devil margin, and fell to UW-Stout 99-71 in their final game of the season.

Throughout the season, Bilderback logged the highest number of points per game with 23, adding to her 295-point total on the season while freshman Allison Prestegaard recorded the highest number of rebounds for the season with 14. Prestegaard also charted the most blocks on the team with 66, responsible for over half of the entire team's 121 total.

As a team, the Pioneers out-rebounded their opponents 1041 to 1007 this season, and also recorded 121 blocks to their opponent's 89.
