STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The women's basketball team managed to pull off a close victory on Saturday over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 72-69, at Berg Gymnasium in Stevens Point.

Senior forward Alyssa Krajco led all scorers with 21, while going 10-19 from the field, and dished out three assists and two steals.

Nine different Pioneers managed to make it on the scoreboard throughout the evening.

The women also went 6-10 from three-point range and shot 73.9 percent from the free-throw line, going 14-19.

The Pioneers got off to a great start as they saw their largest lead of the game with 5:40 left in the first period, 31-18.

A dish from junior guard Taylor Lorbiecki, to Krajco for the jumper, put the women up by 13.

Lorbiecki led all players in assists with six.

A late run by the Pointers at the end of the first period would close the gap to three as the Pioneers took a 40-37 lead into the half.

In the second half the Pioneers shot 32 percent compared to the Pointers' 54.5 percent, but managed to grab 13 points from the free-throw line as the Pointers only took six.

The largest lead of the second half was five by the Pioneers several times as the two teams battled down to the end of the game.

Senior guard Keeley Schulz was the last Pioneer to score with a pair of free throws, followed by a Pointer layup, 72-69, to send the women back to Platteville with their seventh conference victory (14-8, 7-6).

Senior forward Stacy Clark controlled the boards for the Pioneers as she led the team with six rebounds.

The Pioneers return to Platteville on Feb. 15 to play UW-Eau Claire at Bo Ryan Court.
