Women's Basketball knocks off UW-Superior, 82-77

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The senior trio of Stacy Clark, Rachel Cropp and Alyssa Krajco combined for 55 points to lead the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team to an 82-77 victory over visiting UW-Superior on Wednesday on Bo Ryan Court. 

Clark and Krajco each netted 19 points. Krajco added 11 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the season. Cropp went 9-of-10 from the free throw line for a total of 17 points and also recorded a game-high three steals. 

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 7-2 lead and held on to the lead until the 11:04 mark when the Yellowjackets managed to tie it up 17-17. UWS then used a 7-0 run to take a 26-21 lead with 8:16 left in the half. The Yellowjackets' largest lead of the came at the 4:10 mark, 28-22. The Pioneers then went on a 7-0 run of their own to retake the lead, 29-28 with 2:27 left in the half. UWS scored on its last three possessions of the half to take a 36-32 advantage into the locker room. 

The Yellowjackets held onto their lead for nearly 10 minutes in the second half. A pair of free throws by Cropp with 7:41 left to play gave the Pioneers their first lead of the final period, 63-61. The Pioneers wouldn't allow the Yellowjackets to regain the lead. A jumper by Clark gave UW-Platteville its largest lead of the game, 76-69, with 1:13 to play. The Pioneers made 6-for-8 free throws in the final minute to seal the 82-77 win. UW-Platteville knocked down 26-of-30 from the charity stipe in the second half. 

The Pioneers improve to 4-3 in the WIAC and 11-5 overall, while Superior falls to 5-2 and 10-5 overall. 

UW-Platteville will get the weekend off and won't return to the hardwood until Wednesday, Jan. 14 when the Pioneers travel to UW-Eau Claire.
