Pioneers fall in Wednesday twin bill

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Pioneer baseball team was unable to match the offensive output of the UW-La Crosse Eagles in its doubleheader at Copeland Park Wednesday.

The Eagles took game one 11-4 and controlled game two from the start, winning 13-0.

Game One

After the first inning went by scoreless, the Eagles struck first in their half of the second, as the first five batters reached base, plating three runs.

Pioneer starter Nathan Fay appeared settle back in on the mound after the tough inning, getting out of the third in just four batters, but UW-La Crosse was able to score again in the fourth on a two-run home run.

The Eagles crossed four more in the fifth and another in the sixth to push their lead to 10-0.

UW-Platteville was able to stave off the 10-run rule with a four-run inning in the seventh, as the team knocked four hits and was aided by two Eagle errors. Colin DeBoer and Tanner Galeazzi recorded RBI singles during the rally.

UW-La Crosse got a run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to put the lead at its final 11-4.

Game Two

The Eagles continued their hot hitting with a nine-run first inning, highlighted by two home runs, and then a two-run second inning.

UW-La Crosse Shane Adler proved to be a difficult puzzle to solve, as he scattered four hits in the six scoreless innings of work.

DeBoer, George Jester III, Zach Demmon and Tyler Trautsch were the few Pioneers to notch hits, with Demmon recording a double in the sixth.

The game was ended after the top of the seventh with UW-La Crosse leading 13-0. 

Four Pioneer players will be honored on Saturday  for Senior Day in between the two games of the squad's final home doubleheader against University of Chicago. Games are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
